Hike around Castle Rock
John, Amanda and Johnny were out visiting and to attend Sam’s graduation from Colorado School of Mines. The day after the graduation, May 15, we went up to Castle Rock to hike around its namesake, the Castle Rock. It’s a fun, short hike that loops around the rock. John and Jeff climbed up to the top of the rock using a large crevasse. There used to be stairs that led to the top, the bottom portion of the stairs is no longer there. The city probably decided not to repair them because of liability problems it people fell off the rock.
While hiking, we saw a bunny rabbit in the brush, a cactus growing out of a rock and a bee hive right next to the trail.
We went to the 4th of July Parade here in Monument, CO. This time we were smart and bicycled over, it’s only 3 miles. Last time we took the shuttle bus from the high school next to us. Coming back on the bus took longer than if we had walked home. We forgot that it was an election year. Well, that is until the parade started. At least half of the parade entries were political. Note to self: Don’t go the parade again in an election year.
We still had a good time, even with all the political stuff. Watching the audience was as fun as watching the parade.
